Steve Kelley for April 22, 2019

While Bernie is not my first choice for 2020, I won’t sit back at this typically unfair cheap shot. If you disagree with the rules of the game, you speak out and try to change them, but until the change is made you play by the rules as they are.

Let’s say you’re an old school baseball traditionalist who hates the designated hitter rule. You campaign to repeal the American League designated hitter rule. Then you get a job managing in the American League. Would you make your hitter pitch? No. You play by the rules as they are. And it is not hypocritical to play the game by the rules as they are while campaigning to change them, not just for yourself, but for everyone in the game.

Same thing applies for Warren Buffett, the most successful investment capitalist of all time (demonized by CONservatives for having the NERVE to want to open up opportunity for everyone else) points out that the system needs to be reformed because his investment income (capital gains) is taxed at a lower rate than his secretary’s employee income.

Sure, Buffett could voluntarily pay more as an individual, but that isn’t the point. He wants SYSTEMIC reform that applies to everyone. Same for millionaire Bernie.

Does Steve Kelley not understand this or is he just jealous that Bernie made the system work better than he did. Class envy is such an ugly thing.

Just following the current law he wants to change. Democrats don’t opposed making money, just stealing it, and not paying taxes on that.

Mr. Kelly was brought in to replace Mr. Rodgers at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette by the new hard right editorial management. In return, Mr. Kelly has worked hard to reproduce classical editorial gems such as “Neener, neener, neener” over and over again. He is apparently being inspired by Mr. Trump.

Wait, so Sanders actually PAID everything he was legally required to pay, and then put it on public record, even though he’s not required and the main opposition candidate refuses to do so, and BERNIE is the one you’re criticizing?

Kelley, you need to step back and reconsider your priorities. I have no doubt that Bernie will not only work to raise the tax on his tax bracket, once he’s done say he’ll actually pay it.

Which is more than I can say for others.

Oh, and by the way….where do YOU fit in here? Are YOU paying YOUR fair share? Do you pay 52%? Well, until you do and Bernie doesn’t, stuff a sock in it.

Me? I owed the IRS $92 this year, after I filed. Usually I get $300 back. Just in case you’re wondering. And no, I was not in the 26% bracket.

Those “brackets” are meaningless when you have tax lawyers to find enough deductions and loopholes to totally eliminate the effect of that “bracket”.

Could it be that in some ways we are paying the accountants’ and lawyers’ fees in lieu of taxes?

Bernie is almost as big a hypocrite as most Christians maybe he should run as a Republican instead of a Democrat, he could chose because he is neither.

60 of America’s biggest companies paid no federal income tax in 2018

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/2018-taxes-some-of-americas-biggest-companies-paid-little-to-no-federal-income-tax-last-year/

The U.S. debt is the sum of all outstanding debt owed by the federal government. On February 11, 2019, it exceeded $22 trillion. It passed the milestone of $21 trillion on March 15, 2018.

Debt is going up because Republicans give tax breaks to rich corporations.

Meanwhile, Kelley ‘blurs’ the fact that #45 continues to lie and hide his tax returns! “Can you say ‘Partisan Hack!’”

why would they pay more than they are legally required? they can argue for an increase and then happily pay it when the law changes. criticize them if they squeeze out every questionable deduction, otherwise shut up — especially when your guy won’t even release his taxes…because you and all you trump devotees know he LIES by inflating his revenue to investors but hiding it when it comes to taxes.

Love the fingernail polish. And that Kelley actually used “aspirational” in the proper context. Not much else to like about this ’toon.

Because the debt is going up due to Republican tax breaks for the republican donor class, it shows the republicans are stealing from the treasury.
