Is it Stockholm syndrome? Benjamin Netanyahu, head of a Jewish state birthed out of the ashes of Jewish martyrs, now becoming more like the Nazis who gassed his people and then shoveled their limp bodies into furnaces?

Just this week, Netanyahu actually said that, “Hitler didn’t want to exterminate the Jews.”

For those who equate opposition to Israeli terrorist attacks against Palestinians who were there long before the Jews returned from their European diaspora with anti-Semitism, sorry, but many Jews in the United States and Israel vehemently oppose Netanyahu’s Nazi devolution (as he recently partnered with the party of the late extremist Meir Kehane which sought full deportation of all Palestinians or other Arabs), it is those who stand WITH Netanyahu who are anti-Semitic, in tarnishing the legacy of true heroes such as David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, who would all be aghast at Netanyahu today. (Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres were still alive when Netanyahu was beginning his ascent, and they opposed him vigorously.)

Back in high school, I took a world religions class in which we toured the houses of worship of several different religions/denominations in the area. At each stop, the clergyman gave a talk to the students. The one thing that stood out for me (besides the over powering incense at the Greek Orthodox church) was the talk the rabbi at the synagogue we visited. He talked about Israel became a country and the problems between the Israelis and the Palestinians. He was very much in favor of forcing Israel to honor the 1947 UN resolution, shrinking Israel back to the 1947 borders, returning Jerusalem to the status of an “international” city, and recognizing Palestinian statehood.

That stuck with me all these years and formed the basis of my opinion on the matter. Anyone wanting to accuse me of being antisemitic for my condemnation of Israel’s human rights abuses and my support of Palestinian statehood can kiss my @$$. And while I’m at it, MN Rep Omar is correct. The undue influence pro-Israeli lobbyists have in Congress really is “all about the Benjamins”… literally. That’s the whole point of influence pedaling.

Even the UN sanctioned formation of the State of Israel in 1948 resulted in the displacement of Palestinians. The 1948 war displaced many more. These issues are not getting less solveable each year but building on these problems. Israel is currently recognized only by Egypt and Jordan and is technically still at war with the remaining Arabic Mid-East nations (shades of Korean peninsula). Certain basic things need to happen: Israeli settlements in occupied territories need to go. Israel needs to be recognized and terroristic operations against it cease. I don’t think there’s anyone alive who would be able to negotiate a settlement.

The problem with “B-B Brain’s” lack of any movement on the two-state solution is that he ALSO REJECTS the only OTHER CHOICE he has at this point – assimilation of the “Palestinians” into Israel’s society. I base this rejection on something he broadcast to his followers the last time he ran for office. He warned “his people” that they’d better get to the polls because his opposition was “busing Arabs” to the polls to vote against us!"

That told me ALL I needed to know about Benjamin Netanyahu.

How can you have a 2 state solution when the Palestinians and their supporters refuse to recognize Israel as a state?

How can there be such a solution when Hamas and Fatah continue to embrace the destruction of Israel in their rhetoric and official documents?

Why would any sane person trust these groups to honor peace agreements when they and their predecessors have broken every prior truce, agreement, treaty and protocol?

Andylit; you are totally wrong. Hamas and Fatah are continuing to embrace the destruction of Israel in their rhetoric and official documents.
