Convoluted logic but I bet someone might use it.

I especially liked (for a sufficiently broad definition of “like”) a comment made by the prosecutor at the end of his announcement. It went something like: “Now, this is not the same as a family donating money to the endowment or funding a building, and their children getting admitted.”

    Of course it’s not. /sarcasm

USC will deny admission to students connected to the cheating scheme. Even with donations, names and connections and the legacy of alumni, these wealthy parents needed more of an advantage. This cheating scheme includes bribing SAT test proctors and college coaches. One man donated $150K to Chicago’s DePaul University, there have been 50 charged in this bribery scandal. As the rich continue to show they lie, cheat and bribe to get their way, the GOP demands we give them more of our money?

Like the old joke about the kid who kills both his parents then pleads for mercy because he’s an orphan.

Somebody asked the question, how did we get to this point? There are many reasons, and in this case it seems obvious to me that it has more to do with the parents than with intellectually disadvantaged rich kids yearning for a really good education (snort!) The parents want the prestige of a school that goes along with their perception of themselves, their position in this life and what they’re entitled to. The other thing is what the coach who thunk up this scheme said: “[Your kid’s school] sets the trajectory for the rest of their life.” What a crock! If you want the life where connections matter, that’s true. University of Iowa will not have the same cache as Harvard. For the rest of us, stop paying lip service to “do what you love” and DO IT, even if means an apprenticeship, an associate’s degree, or even just plain experience.
