The America I grew up in was not afraid of everything, guns were for hunting, and our representatives would not think of trading freedoms for a loss of privacy and a false sense of security. In the UNITED States, also known as “the land of the free and home of the brave”, Congress would not allow the Patriot Act to exist and make us fear/distrust our neighbors near and far as today’s “representatives” are accustomed to doing.
They have the smocking gun – memos within the DHS indicating that ICE and Border Patrol are directed to target activists and journalists, and separate them out for “enhanced security” measures like repeated strip and full cavity searches whenever they cross the border, regardless of their citizenship status.
Interesting how authoritarians have to de-humanize their scapegoats and attempt to make ordinary freedom human beings objects of fear. The terms “illegal” and “rule of law” are unstable fickle things now that may not even survive 2 consecutive sessions of our highly partisan dysfunctional Congresses.
It is legal to seek asylum, both at the border and after one is in the US, on, say, a tourist visa. My understanding is that the odds of success are much higher if (a) you start out with a good lawyer and (b) you begin the process from inside the US. However, either way, it is legal to seek asylum. And, by the way, if it were not for the immigrants in our history, we would clearly be a poorer nation.
Federal immigration authorities faced criticism on Thursday after an internal government document, obtained by NBC 7 San Diego, suggested that immigration activists and journalists were specifically singled out for extra screening at border entry points by the United States and Mexican governments.
The businesses of all sizes who hire illegals are not a ‘real’ threat?
The businesses who import ‘legals’ and allow them to overstay their visas are not a ‘real’ threat?
.
Yeah, I know.
Trump works very, very, bigly hard to keep his enterprises from hiring illegals and was shocked, just shocked to find so many had been working for his businesses for a decade or longer.
