That was fast. She’s been quilting for maybe a month and she started making that one?

It seems that quilting, like most skills, has its own vocabulary.

I’ve never made a full size quilt, just baby quilts, and I’ve never used more than one block pattern. Mostly I design my own. I have designed 15 full size quilts, for when I finally get a new, working sewing machine.

I do admire someone who can take someone else’s design and make it real, but I always get bored. I inherited a BUNCH of blocks my mom cut out for a quilt – 3-inch blocks, counted out in each color, some triangles, too. I don’t know what pattern she had in mind, motherhood killed that project, but with the number of tiny squares and triangles, I was meant to be something complicated.

The designing and making it personal is what I love – putting it together is simple validation!

Oh, Betty, that design is a type of quilt that is deliberately made so that it is asymmetrical, Japanese style I think. You just made it your own!

Great quilt! If you want to see the actual pattern, it’s at http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/quilt-patterns/bed-quilts/neon-dreams.
