The reverend reminds me of my great uncle Charles. He was an old farmer and a diehard Baptist. Whenever the conversation at the dinner table turned unacceptable he’d just shut off his hearing aid and enjoy his meal.
My dad used to take his youth group on trips each summer. One year they drove up to DC, and he got a sweet letter from them, thanking him for not asking them to turn down the radio. “See, lots of benefits to turning off my hearing aids.”

I became functionally deaf recently. After 35 yrs in ministry, I’m really enjoyimg the ‘sounds of silence’.
