Here’s an interesting historical fact. The Senate passed bipartisan immigration reform bills in 2006 and 2013 (each received over 60 votes). Neither was ever brought up for a vote in the Republican-dominated House. So if you want to complain about not fixing immigration, Mikey, you might want to start with your own party.

If Dotard were allowed to re-write “The New Colossus” it would say something like this…or worse. You know, “Fix our immigration system by building a big beautiful wall and kicking all of the brown people out of our bright, white country.”

Now, I’m whiter than Mafia Don, with a head of real silver-colored hair and the only people I’m interested in kicking out of the country are orangutans who sport a bronze Miracle Mop on their head.

I agree. Any talk of a wall should include comprehensive immigration reform.

We need more people, not less, working on the border. Not just security, but people to process immigrants.

We need humane facilities for immigrants to stay in while being processed.

We need a better system of allowing immigrants to come in and work.

We need a path to citizenship for those brought here as children and raised as Americans.

We need to protect birth-right citizenship.

We need a better system to track the vast majority of immigrants who arrive here legally and then overstay their visas.

Before we build the wall we have to decide what to do with people climbing over it. Are we going to shoot to kill? Or are we going to apprehend and detain them (as we do now)? And if we apprehend them, why do we need the wall. We should not build a wall as an excuse to shoot border crossers.

We need to treat immigrants as people, not objects.

We must always remember, that the Bill of Rights protects everyone, everywhere, from the US government. It keeps us, our government, under control and prevents us from harming HUMAN rights, not AMERICAN rights.

Perhaps the Dems will do it, Republicans do nothing.

The immigration process needs some adjustments but is not broken. But it’s a great distraction, the Right blames all the countries problems on the least able to defend themselves….

Certainly worthy of thoughtful and reasoned study and civil debate. Alas, it will only be used to fuel racist fearmongering by the President.

“If we want to be governed by someone we wouldn’t do a business deal with because their — their background is so shady, if we’re willing to do that, then that’s in conflict with who I think we are. And so I think it’s necessary at those times to take a stand.” Four-star Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal (retired)

The Americas were well populated until the Europeans came with diseases the natives did not have any immunity against. The violence in the Central and South American countries has a lot to do with U.S. actions in those countries. TheMcChuck description is more factual when used to describe the Europeans that invaded the Americas and the U.S. that destabilized CA and SA.
