For the sake of the charm and nostalgia for the simple life we cherish about “Red and Rover,” let’s all refrain from comments about today’s dismal political landscape. Let’s keep the time and space of R&R pure and innocent.
That sentiment could refer to pretty much any decade in history. Not just today. Always remember the old adage of newspaper editors: “If it bleeds, it leads”. Disaster and panic sell papers. Ok, and SUPER good news like “V-E Day” or the Landing on the Moon. But those good news stories are few and far between.
Actually, according to the dictionary, that is not ironic. It would be irony if the main story in the newspaper was about the high failure rate of rubber bands.
It is strange how all modern day news was thought to be “bad news” at the time no matter the decade. And yet we look so fondly back on the past! This gives me hope that all the “current events” of today may one day we viewed that way too. No matter the news or the spin we always survive it. I love this strip! It reminds me so much of my own sweet past and of my cherished doggie friend, Candy. Hugs to Red and Rover. Get out of the cold soon, Guys, and have some hot chocolate by the fire!
Agreed, no politics or religion. – HOWEVER – Good English would be appreciated! – Brian, it is not ironic, it is the opposite, namely appropriate. If good news had been scattered and bad news delivered in good form, that would be ironic. – You’re welcome. :))
