Both in my family for Chanukah and husband’s family (both including children) someone would have a garbage bag and collect the paper after each person opened a gift. No mess to clean up. Plus, according to him, when he was growing up, Santa did not wrap gifts, the gifts were setup and sitting under the tree -no box, no wrapping.

I do the same but lie down under the tree to remind my family what a gift I am to them.
