Actually, I have a friend – a former shipmate, actually – who, when she got out of the Navy, went to work for Quick Trip in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and made a career of it. She’s now retired – sold her house, went full-time in her RV and is now living in a pretty nice trailer park in southern California. She and Jane might even be neighbors except I get the feeling Jane lives further north.
