    If that is truly the choice your pension fund faced, it must have been run by a bunch of idiots! Of course, you had no direct say in who ran it – that usually was the company’s decision – unless you were represented by a decent Union.

    My pension is watched over by a board consisting of company, union and public members and the company cannot dip into it in any way. Their only option is to not fund it, from year to year, and even THAT is subject to negotiation – I get yearly statements about HOW the money is being used – and, yes, I realize that is not the norm but it WOULD have been if Republicans had not been so successful in destroying Unionism in America!

    Actually, renewable energy is more profitable than coal and oil, and getting more so, with about $300 billion in new investment every year, while investment in coal-fired power plants is rapidly drying up worldwide.
