The first job of a portrait painter is to figure out how the subject wants to look; then, paint that.
When Francisco Goya painted the Spanish royal family he refused to remove any blemishes.
Well no one died in this one. But she turned to be a photo realist which ended her career. I actually liked that she painted which she considered “better” views her subjects.
Moral of the story….with the right skill, you can lie and embellish your way to the truth, but you can’t “truth” your way back into a lie.
