We have the saying, “Remember Pearl Harbor”. We need one for 9/11.

When 911 happened, our restraint was critical to avoiding starting a religious war, which was what Osama bin Laden was trying to trigger. How would our current president react? I fear he would immediately fall into the trap. It is this kind of inability to be strategic and consider the nuances that concerns me most about this administration.

We kill more people every YEAR with unregistered guns, auto accidents, lack of health insurance and pollution, but do you see anyone working against those facts?

After 911 while the armed services reported a spike in the number of people inquiring about enlistment and a near-doubling in the visitors to the Army’s online recruiter chat room, they also report no rise in actual enlistments since the attack . . . in contrast to the days after the attack on Pearl Harbor thousands of young men got in line to sign up for combat . . . for thousands of young Americans, the attack on Pearl Harbor was like a calling. It filled them with rage, a need for revenge, and it pushed them to do something that would often end up putting their lives on the line. That was repeated endlessly throughout the United States in the days and weeks following the attack . . . however, evaluating enlistment by comparing it with Pearl Harbor may be unfair, given that this time around, the nation’s leaders had yet to decide whom to fight or how. Also, most of those joining the military these days are driven less by patriotism than the desire for educational benefits and skills training.

Nevertheless, two attacks on America, and two entirely different reactions to it. Remarks taken from remarks from the New York Times and the Pearl Harbor Visitor’s Bureau, at that time, and said it better than I could. Never forget.

I haven’t forgotten. But when Bush used 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq the memory took on a different flavor.

Never forget how many lives were lost because of the invasion of Iraq.

    .

Never forget when Trump saw with his own eyes, thousands of Muslims dancing in the streets in New Jersey.

17 years ago Trump bragged that his building was highest since the Twin Towers had been brought down.

Idiot Trump giving high fives at 9-11 grave site, what a swell guy.

Never forget the intelligence screwup, the fact 15 of the 19 terrorists were Saudis, none were Afghans or Iraqis, and though no nation state was involved, we desroyed two nations, and Bush/Cheney actions when Saddam fell, led directly to the creation of the armed terrorist group known as ISIL.
