Curiously, I have heard nothing of the players from the leather helmet days getting dementia in old age. Maybe because of the leather helmets they weren’t using their heads as a battering ram?
The more padding and protection a player has on, the more invincible he thinks he is. The helmet wasn’t designed to be an offensive weapon but that’s unfortunately, what it’s too often used for.

Rugby players don’t have the same problems that American football players do. Maybe it’s time to get rid of all the pads and helmets.
