“Once upon a time there were two Catholics. Now look how many.”

Way back in the day when I was getting married. The Catholic Church required the couples attend pre-Canna conferences just to make sure we knew how to live a good Catholic Marriage and, given the state of sex education in the Catholic Schools at the time, how to make more Catholics.

My wife and I had to get “dispensation” since for the last year of our engagement, we were living 700 miles apart. Nonetheless, I was advised to talk to a priest. So I found a Catholic Chaplin who said, “You know the Church’s stance on contraception, right?” It was a yes or no answer. There was no discussion on whether I intended to comply.

Catholic Sex: Only between married couples for the sole purpose of procreation, in the missionary position, in the bedroom only, at night, with the lights out, not on Sunday or during Lent and try not to enjoy it.

When I was younger, I was told that Italian Catholics ignored the teaching on contraception, and Irish Catholics didn’t.

In the neighborhood I grew up in, there were three Irish families that hand 30 kids between them: 12, 10, and 8.

But I think the church liked that particularly since one kid from each family would become a priest.
