North Korea is prime to be a tourist attraction, with Trump Towers, Trump golf courses, North Korean sweat factories for Ivanka’s handicrafts…. the potential for a Trump revenue source in the guise of peacemaker is …. let’s just say he’s getting in at ground zero.
Conservative icon George Will: The “art of the deal,” according to the supposed Rembrandt of this art (a six-time bankrupt), seems to be this: Ask for the universe, settle for one of Jupiter’s minor moons, claim that the moon is actually the center of the universe and was the real goal all along, and that only he — not Metternich, not Kissinger — could have plucked this flower, safety, from the nettle, danger. However, the common denominator in most mishaps of governing — in both domestic (Prohibition, 1930s protectionism, the Great Society, 1970s wage and price controls, etc.) and foreign policies (Woodrow Wilson’s Fourteen Points, the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, etc.) — is the belief that the world is more malleable than it is, that inertia is less powerful than it is, that social variables can be made to vary as we wish them to. But, then, such mishaps were in the era B.R. — Before Rembrandt.
Watching Trump negotiate is like watching a pigeon play chess. He knocks over all the pieces, poops on the board, and then struts around as if he has won something.
The meeting with Kim is about the least of things this administration is doing that has had me working the “porcelain throne” since election day. Knocking off the “joint military exercises” is something we should have done a long time ago to end provocation. If Bush hadn’t done in the Clinton agreement, that was working, we’d have been a long way ahead toward ending the animosity a long time ago. Peace IS a good thing, and the US insisting on taking a piece of every country in the world for our benefit, isn’t the best way to achieve it. More diplomacy, fewer bombs, and troops overseas, good way to go. Not just with Korea. Cleaning up our domestic disasters Pruitt et al are in charge of , will also ease domesting tension and illness among those who actually care about an America, and world, with a future.
Thanks to Donnie’s 500 milion dollar loan (bribe) from China and trademarks for Ivanka’s trinkets, China was the winner here. Trump announced the military war games with South Korea and the U.S. will cease; an ominous indication that America is ceding mainland Asia to China with the rest of the eastern hemisphere on down the road. We insult allies and compliment dictators in the script now.
Chris Matthews nailed it on Colbert last night. China wins. North Korea got Trump to say we won’t do war games with South Korea (“It’s inappropriate”) We won’t be protecting our allies anymore (Watch out, Taiwan!). North Korea will still keep their nukes, and China will control them and Kim. And…is abandoning our close allies. In a world of super-connectedness, we will be without ties doing the bidding of our masters. And…here at home the country will be bitterly divided—a house that cannot stand. We’re doomed. Anyone NOT see that? Come on, America. Vote for him again. You won’t have a choice. Anyone read the history of the 30’s?

I disagree with Jeff today. Nothing to vomit over. It was just an elaborate photo op.

This kind of “More diplomacy” we can do without. “Fewer bombs,” ha! Not as long as John Bolten is hanging around.

In exchange for stopping our NK military exercises, we get to look for our Korean war dead. What a deal.

Odd how Lumpy Hannity says that if Obama had done THE EXACT SAME THING, it would have been awful…
