Boomers had a 90% chance of earning more than their parents, and could pay college tuition with a minimum wage job. Gen-Y has only a 50% chance of earning more than their parents, and graduate college in debt despite working more hours than their parents.

Not to evade the son’s responsibility, but his behavior speaks to the quality of Mom and Dad’s parenting skills and perhaps their role modeling.

The reason socialism is becoming popular with young people is because they understand how how broken our political system is. Society should value and encourage highly educated people. Today’s costs make that impossible for many who desire higher education. Washington is full of sleaze balls so there is no leadership to look up to for inspiration. The watering down of Dodd Franks will lead to another recession before long because banks are pushing growth the way they did before by reducing loan requirements and moving towards junk loans again. Depressed areas of the country are getting no help, coal will not become king again nor steel. Medical costs, medical insurance and medications are off the charts pricewise and climbing quickly. The US clearly has the most expensive medical system in the world and is not the most effective system. The US faces a grim future and is devolving into a third world country where corruption rules and pay to play is the rule rather than an exception. Donald Trump is raking it in everyday. This is the “role model” our kids are learning to live with.

I’d rather have the government f-ck off out of my life as much as possible. I’d opt out of Social Security if I could. If I don’t have enough to retire on in 20 years, that’s MY problem, not yours. I’d rather croak at 70 than live 20 years relying on some government program.

BWR, there are people that depend on Social Security because they never had opportunities, have a disability or many other reasons. Be grateful that you have had the luck and opportunities that allow you to save for your retirement rather than denigrating others that aren’t as lucky. And as I pointed out in my reply to you under the comment from Superposition, the top tier of the wealthiest pay lower percentages than the middle class. Top corporations have often paid nothing while raking in record profits.

I could not wait to leave my parent’s house and start my own life.

This is based on an actual court case. Search “parents sue to evict son”.

Those republicans now-a-days are just lazy and waiting for someone else to give them what they haven’t worked for.
