    Makes you wonder how the homeowner(s) didn’t notice the shedowner (and/or why the lawnmower, gardening tools and whatnot are scattered about outside after putting them away).

    Perhaps a case of adverse posession. However, given the surprise of the owner, I think it would fail the “Open and notorious” requirement. https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/adverse_possession

    My neighbor found some squatters living in his camper trailer out in his back yard. They wouldn’t leave either. Of course, we live in a ‘sanctuary city’.

    I lived in a small town in Southern California. Rents were going up, no cheap housing, so people took to living in lawn sheds, garages, you name it. Don’t know how much they got charged for rent—they probably got gouged, since most of them were undocumented aliens.
