    And half a dozen Democratic senators voted for her. If those Democrats hadn’t voted in favor of a torturer, she wouldn’t be head of the CIA today. (3 Republicans voted no, although it’s impossible to know how they would have voted if the Democrats hadn’t exposed their own perfidy.

    despite her torture concerns the Senate confirmed Gina Haspel to lead as the CIA’s first female director. She faces two immediate challenges: How to organize her agency and how to employ its resources. six Democrats voted for her and two Republicans voted against her. She appears to have been helped by some last-minute arm-twisting by former CIA directs John Brennan and Leon Panetta.
