Not really, BTG- all our money in N. America is fiat currency. Only worth what they say it’s worth. The English £, on the other hand, is still a promissory note for real money.

This also true of gold, silver, etc. Minerals have no natural, inherent monetary value. Their value is only what people perceive it to be.
