Mark me as confused that Dawn and Elizabeth would choose the one part of the clothes line to play badminton over where they can’t see each other on the other side. Usually badminton rackets comes with a net of some sort which you can see through, which is a lot more fun (to me at least).

I am also surprised by that giant sheet. Typically I can hang a queen-sized sheet without folding it over and it won’t touch the ground. That sheet is folded over and still manages to go close to the ground. That is huge. Does Elly have one of those Olympic Queen, or Cal King, or Grand King beds?

    A) the girls are old enough to know better than to play badminton among the freshly washed sheets and b) Ellie should have warned them about playing too close to the laundry. C) the girls should now have their first lesson on ‘how to wash clothes’ and ‘how to hang them on a clothesline’. Right?

Time to buy a dryer, Elly. It’s faster and better, trust me.

Elly should give them an old sheet that isn’t destined for the bed and let them have fun.

    Lynn’s Notes:

My mom used to hang the laundry on two lines in our backyard. Once, we were guilty of getting the sheets dirty by playing badminton. Another time was when my brother put the neighbour’s small dog into the hanging fold of a sheet and let him fumble his way out. It never occurred to us that we were ruining an expensive piece of fabric and wasting hours of hard work. We were kids. We just didn’t think at all!

Mom had one of those ‘umbrella’ clothes lines that unfolded and offered 6 or 7 parallel line from which to hang clothes and we were warned to stay out of the ‘backyard’ when she had ‘clothes’ hanging on the lines ! ! !

I have three lines each 75’ long. I don’t own a dryer so on rainy days or to cold to hang out clothes I use the drying racks. Thankfully I live in the country and you can’t see my line or house from the road. My best friend can’t have a line it’s against her neighborhood/ subdivision code. Sad because her kids will never smell how good a clean sheet smells when it comes off the line. As far as playing under the clothes my daughter used to love for me to hang the sheets over two lines so she could pretend it was her house. Ahhhh memories I did the same thing when I was little. We didn’t have a dryer either.
