Fortunately Jim Croce had similar concerns, for they gave rise to such classic lines as, “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape,” and “You don’t pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger.”
Used to wonder why Lassie didn’t just up and say one day, " Timmy, this is the fifteenth episode I’ve saved you from the well . . . . this time you’re on your own. Good luck, kid ! "
I remember hearing there had been more than one Trigger and I didn’t understand. I was also disappointed when I learned that Lassie, who had even had puppies on an episode, was played by a male collie. …aah reality!
I don’t know much about TV or movie sound effects, in the past or now, but I wonder if maybe the sounds of the shots weren’t added to the film rather than actually being that loud when the gun was shot and being filmed?
There was only one Trigger. Roy trained up another horse on the tv show to give Trigger some rest, but that wasn’t any secret – it was part of the plot.
Horses do eventually go deaf if you do a lot of shooting on horseback, but only if you use real bullets, not with the blanks Hollywood uses.

Never occurred to me as I didn’t watched Roy Rogers (not even on TV Land)… the only Rogers I remember watching was Fred.

Judging by the noise in the truck I’d say both Trigger and Jr. could hear. That was a lo-o-ng time ago.

I saw something about Dale Evans and mentioned it to my kids and grand kids (in their 40’s). The universal answer: “Who’s he?”
