Did Mommy tell you to come inside for the night when the man lit the gas lamps on the street?

Society changed the rules.. today’s kids are expected to be not only great students, but athletes, club presidents and volunteers. Otherwise that college scholarship will go to someone who is willing to work for it. Since a college education is required for pretty much everything now it doesn’t leave kids much choice.

So they aren’t “playing” online.. or outdoors. They are organizing food drives and traveling to away games. No one is eating what mom’s cooking as she probably ordered takeout because Nicole’s scout meeting, Jason’s ball game and Deshawn’s debate meet are all at dinnertime.

And cell phones? I freaking hate them.. but they are a heck of a lot more practical than landlines for keeping track of busy teens.

The world is always changing. Your childhood was different from your parents. Don’t blame the kids for living in the world we adults created. Did Mom have a choice about cooking that dinner or was being a housewife the only option? Did she get to continue her education if she wanted to or was getting married out of high school the expectation? Did Dad get to spend time with his newborn? Did your daughter learn that she has the right to say NO? The past was not perfect and the present is not all bad.
