Give some folks a medical dictionary and they’ll catch everything in it.

A friend had a heart attack. They found him at his computer looking up “heart attack symptoms”. Another had an attack, he called 911 and is still alive.

Read the first chapter of ‘three men in a boat’ and discover this existed before the arrival of the computer.

It can rarely help though. According to someone on Reddit they googled their symptoms because his doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him and turned out the internet mentioned some rare cancer. He took this knowledge to his doctor who ran tests and determined that the internet was actually right! He’s being treated and apparently prognosis is good.

Go to the medical library (the physical place) and do your research: you will discover the medical arts is a very uncertain field: they don’t know a lot but believe a great amount relying on arbitrary, subjective or biased measures. “Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine” is a good place to start.
