Do schools still take kids on field trips anymore?

Or A five-years-old-girl shoots at a school-bus! More appropriate nowadays.

Some kids are OK with school, others not so much, I would put Sally in the not so much category. Just imagine, if it was in early 1900’s, she could be a factory worker.

Long-forgotten memories (1950-56) are rising to the surface: Potter Park Zoo; the local Wonder Bread factory; central fire station; the main public library; the REO plant (where military Jeeps were produced and which is now an historical memory for Lansing, MI)…one thing escapes me though, it was a residential school, in walking distance for everyone, but I can’t recall how we got to our distant field trip destinations.

My younger daughter is going on a field trip today: they’re walking to the local ballpark to watch the local baseball team play. She doesn’t like baseball; she’s going to hang with her friends, who also don’t. I’m OK with that.

When I was in elementary school, we took a field trip to the local sewage treatment plant (seriously). The smell was so bad, I got sick and threw up. So, I feel Sally’s pain.

We were near enough Washington D.C. to go to the Smithsonian, But I’m kinda disappointed we never went to the White House.

We walked to the local fire station, but it was a single story and there was no fire pole so many of us were very disappointed (I doubt they would have let kindergartners use it anyway).
