Truman was a failed haberdasher who, despite being part of a political machine, established a hard-won reputation for total honesty and made himself one of our better presidents. Nixon earned everything he got – had he gone to Harvard as he should have (he got in, but didn’t think he could afford it), things might have been very different. Obama grew up without his father and struggled with who he was, and ultimately chose not only to become an expert in Constitutional law of the nation he loved, but to serve his community and his nation. These stories are inspiring to me. Seems to me they should be to you, too.

Oh, yeah, and lest we forget – the first seven presidents were not born citizens of the US, since it didn’t exist…Martin Van Buren was the first President actually born in the US!

The real answer to the “birthers” complaints is this: do they really think that the Clintons wouldn’t have THOROUGHLY vetted Obama during the Democratic primary race, and that ANY question of his US citizenship wouldn’t have come to light during that contest?

And yet it’s the DADT supporters who bring up sex. Lt. Dan Choi, fired from the military for saying “I’m gay” on Rachel Maddow’s show one night, was on C-SPAN answering questions about DADT Repeal, and an old woman called in asking about sex. DADT supporters bring up sex. “Oh teh noes, showers.” Get over it. Gays aren’t looking at you in the shower, they’re not thinking of sexing you up every moment of the day, the only ones who bring it up are those who want DADT to remain in place. What is the difference between a gay soldier who feels confident he or she won’t get fired from service for calling home to their loved one or embracing their loved one after a long, life-threatening tour, and one who has to keep quiet? Well, other than not having to put their family through Hell, … NOTHING, unless you’re some kind of homophobe wondering if that person wants to sex you up because you think you’re hawt stuff. I work with men all the time, and I don’t think they’re always eying me for sex. So let’s wrap up: what’s the difference between an OUT soldier and a CLOSETED soldier: nothing, unless you’re a homophobe. Because you’re still showering with these people ANYWAY, the only difference is whether or not some ignoramus who thinks that all gays want their body knows that person’s gay, and then, through their own prejudice, decides that they are at risk because they’re so full of themselves to think that a gay person wants them.

The Hawaiian governor has no jurisdiction nor authority to review medical records, motive. Besides that, they claimed it is illegal to release medical records without the permission of the individual, thus possibly breaking the law by commenting on the issue. It’s not up to Hawaiian bureaucrats to comment on the issue, either, it’s up to the man himself. There have been other reports that the certificate doesn’t even exist, so it’s all speculation without Obama’s cooperation, which he isn’t giving.

The newspaper announcement is automatically generated by the issuing of the Certification of Live Birth, which he clearly did have. That, however, is not the same thing as a birth certificate. There were advantages of bestowing US authorization of citizenship on a child in 1961 without having to resort to the notion that they intended for him to be president someday.

Yes, being able to rise up from adversity is worthy of commendation, but it doesn’t mean one should be president of the entire country.

The idea that he “must” be eligible on account of his multiple security clearances is simply not consistent with what has actually taken place.

M Kitt, there have been multiple challenges of his eligibility filed in court. The courts have consistently passed the buck rather than require an actual legal discovery on the part of Obama….but it seems as though it is ultimately coming to that.

Don’t be so naive, baslim, if the powers that be want Obama to be “in” and to have clearance, he has it. For you to suggest that intelligence agencies are apolitical and only interested in national security is laughable.

No one said he is not a US citizen. The accusation is that he is not a natural born citizen, and thus is not eligible for the highest office in the land. I’ve read all the arguments defending his birth records, his travel records, his school records, etc….yet he refuses to release them. All the arguments on either side are based on TOTAL SPECULATION. He is the most nontransparent president in history.

Being familiar with security clearances (several in the family) the thing that disturbs me more than worrying about Obama is– who ever gave Cheney, Rumsfeld,Scooter LIbby, Gordon Liddy, or a number of other whacked out Republicans access to anything more secure than a copy of the Wall Street Journal?

^ Security clearances are certainly rigorous and invasive and that’s just for basic ones. He wouldn’t have gotten that far if he wasn’t legitimate.

baslim, you didn’t read the link I posted, apparently. There are no “people” in charge of verifying this information prior to the election. Basically, if the DNC verifies that he is the candidate, it is taken for granted that he is eligible.

There is a public record of the vetting of McCain’s eligibility. He produced the records and congress had a non-binding vote affirming that he was eligible. There is no public record of Obama’s vetting.

Baslim, think about what you just wrote. The president of the most powerful country in the world is allowed to hide the most basic information about who he is from the world because of the age of “attack dog journalism”? He is allowed to do this in order to “drive the bigots nuts”? No, he is not some common celebrity who owes nothing to the public, he is the occupier of the highest office in the land, probably the world. The fact that liberals defend his lack of transparency because they “trust” the government security agencies is a COMPLETE COMPROMISE of every ideal that lefties have espoused over the eight years of W!

It is such a simple question to resolve. And you don’t require him to resolve it with your voice. Sad.

The person in charge of birth records (the director of the Department of Health) officially verified it. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp You don’t believe the document, so you ask for a different document. But this IS the document, you just don’t want to accept it.

Dr. Fukino’s statement is the strongest argument of them all, yes, but it is a carefully worded statement that interestingly uses the term “vital records”. Which records were they? The Certificate of Live Birth that we have already seen?

Furthermore, Snopes curiously has edited the original statement by Fukino’s office to correctly spell Barack, whereas the original statement said “Barrack.” A quibble, but still, we are seeking clarity here, and even minor mistakes and potential sophistry such as “vital records” leave many questions out there.

Finally, it is not even Dr. Fukino’s place to declare Obama a “natural-born citizen”. That would be a legal issue that would be handled outside of her realm. As I said before, it is not a certainty that he is a natural-born citizen even with a Hawaiian birth.

Everyone, for and against Obama, should be united in calling for him to be transparent…yet, we are not. Why, motive? Why can’t you just admit that he should release whatever he can to help the poor, benighted idiots of America realize he is legitimate, for our own stupid sakes?

For the sake of Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, at the very least, shouldn’t he help us to understand the truth?
