My dad was born at the beginning of the depression, and was somewhat under nourished. When he turned 18 he looked for work at the cement plant where his father worked. They would not hire him as he was too little. He tried the Navy, they wouldn’t take him. He enlisted in the army. Went to Korea, and eventually retired army. One grandson is making a career of the Navy. Dad was so very proud of him.

Both of my grandfathers served in the Navy, one as a flier and one on a sub, so I’m a little biased :)

both of my grandfathers were marines, one had sons who were all in the navy and the other’s sons were army air corps andair force

I feel so sorry for those who were not good enough to get into the Navy and had to settle for the Army or Air Force. ;-)
