Good of you to try to place the orphans, Lio, but I fear the light has gone out of those Jacks-o’-lantern.

Sorry Lio, but I think it is a good assumption that almost anything you have owned is either not safe or not wanted by any other human being.

Here’s an idea: Dress up as the Headless Horseman, and throw the pumpkins at people you don’t like! Nobody will believe them when the say what happened, so you’ll be safe!

We carve our pumpkins no sooner than the day before Halloween. Then every year, the day after Halloween, my wife cuts up the pumpkins, bakes them, purees them and freezes them. Then all year long we have fresh pumpkin for pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin bread…Ummm, good eatin’.

As several posters have noted, everything gets recycled, sooner or later. Everything.

That is why I always draw faces on them instead of carving- they stay solid for weeks. Then I take them out back and smash them against a tree for the wild animals to eat, and they leave nothing but the hide. My wild animals aren’t real bright- one year I didn’t smash them, and they were still intact and solid in early December.
