So, he knows “shiv” is a noun and “shank” is a verb. Apropos for where he’s going …

    New Year’s Eve plans?

Yes. Why – are you inviting? – No candy-sticks on a plane either; I’ve got that.

The way Elliot’s looking, we’ll soon get some Spork shiv kebab.

New Year’s Eve plans? Watch some TV, read some comics, have a drink and snack, then go to bed. OK, I confess, that’s my every evening plans.

What are we going to do tonight, Brain?

Same thing we do every night, Pinky. Wait for GoComics to update.

Stay home. Kinda like every year. Amateur drinking night followed by drunks on the road. No thanks.

Used to go out on New Year’s Eve with my husband when our kids were little. My father would keep them at his home while we went to town. Always headed back home before midnight so we could ring in the New Year at home with our own bottle of sparkling wine. Father died in 2001, husband died in 2007, kids all grown and married with kids of their own. Now I am alone on New Year’s Eve, but still have my bottle of sparkling wine along with some snacks, but I am in bed by 10:30. Sound asleep before any revelers make noise to wake me. Haven’t heard them for several years.

When we were little, my brother and I used to make those pointy ends to our candy canes, then would bite off the tip and start again. Those tips can be dangerous and we both had poked our tongues and/or inside of our cheeks many times with them. Still, it was fun to do.
