It really is a surprise. I often wondered when the IOC was finally going to get with their own code and prevent Russia, or then, the Soviet Union, from messing with the program. For decades, the USSR fully financed their athletes by giving them military rank so they could keep up the illusion that their people were still amateurs. What a joke that was. Now, it’s been found out that they were doping which the USSR was doing in their day, too.
Well, aren’t we morally superior – what with U$ Olympic doctors pumping out Therapeutic Use Exemptions like everyday was TUEsday, and giving absolutely ZERO cares (not the word I wanted to use) about the clean athletes ALSO affected by the ban.
Has anyone watched a video of the reactions from those talented young people having their hopes shattered and their hard work tossed away at the whims of cynical old politicians and hard-hearted people from countries they’ve never personally offended? And how childishly petty is it to ban their flag and anthem? The Olympic charter wasn’t designed to be used as a tool for political attacks, but now that’s what we have.
Frankly, we should be ashamed at the lack of consideration we show to people of other countries, just because we disagree with their governments.
