The arbitrariness of a year is a bad idea. Set goals based on realistic time frames, and don’t just confine the goal-setting to new year’s resolutions. Examples:

In May: “I’ve been meaning to read this great new book, and I’m going to do it over the 4th of July holiday.”

Right now: “In 2024, I’m definitely not going to miss the next eclipse.”

At age 60: “I’ll finish up my master’s degree by the time I turn 70.”

Any time at all: “I really need to thank my mom. Often!”

As one who is coming up on the Big Sleep, I think a lifetime is an arbitrary period to get things done in. More, please.
