if you ask me, the sourdough needs to be toasted and have a grilled hamburger patty with melted Swiss cheese and sautéed onions and mushrooms

Another reason Woodstock doesn’t fly south for the winter.

I live in a seaside town and as you can imagine the place is overpopulated with seagulls.

    I don’t like them. They’re aggressive.

When traveling (locally) for work, I would often spend my lunchtime in my car, between appointments, in a park or near some fast food place if I’d forgotten to pack a lunch. A few of the local KFCs knew me by sight, or by voice, because I always ordered the same thing at the drive through – a fish fillet sandwich with no sauce on it, an orange drink in the smallest size offered, and a plastic fork. Then, I’d sit in my car and dissect the sandwich, eating only the fillet. If there were birds around, they got the bread.

At one particular location (near the landfill and the auto salvage lot) there was always a huge flock of seagulls (dump gulls?) in the parking lot. Occasionally small birds would join them. One day, a red-wing blackbird was hanging out with the gulls. (It was way off course. East of the Blue Ridge, we have starlings and grackles, but rarely red-wings.) Anyway, I tossed some bread in its direction. It managed to snag the scrap and fly off before being assaulted by the gulls. A few minutes later, I was surprised by something tapping on the windshield of my car. There was the red-wing, eyeing the rest of my sandwich, with only a double pane of glass separating us.
