    They could start getting Nate used to the idea that he will have to get a job to help pay his way if he wants to go to college.

    Does the mom have a job? If not, there’s a substantial source of funds right there. Even part time at minimum wage will let them sock away a few grand a year. The kid’s in school so it’s not like they’ll have childcare expenses to eat up her earnings.

    When I went to college (grad 1971) they still taught how to think. Now they teach WHAT to think. Their money would be more wisely spent on a good vocational school – it would cost less and have a more immediate return.
