A family group of chimpanzees indignantly hoot and holler when The Others appear. Too bad Jane Goodall is foreign-born. It would be interesting to give her one term as president.

Unfortunately, history has shown, people can be easily organized around fear and hate of “people not like us”.

If you think foreigners are taking your job, maybe your anger should be directed at the “corporate entity” who hired them in the first place, or perhaps your GOP congressperson who refuses to crack down on the “upstanding businessmen” who hire foreigners.

Since the majority of illegal have gone on to college, it’s not likely that some white high-school drop-out is going to replace them.

The question I always come back to: If we have automation which means we don’t have to give paychecks to people, and we can churn workers to ensure we are paying the minimum to staff that is legally possible, all while using off-shore labor and the cheapest parts from around the globe. When are we going to start seeing those savings at the register? I have seen automated tellers pop up in supermarkets, and the prices keep going up. Pretty soon the rich won’t have any customers for their fancy automated foreign-made garbage.

Trump Disciples (and other Republicans) are convinced that all illegal immigration is from Mexicans coming across the border for welfare.

Businesses of all sizes hiring illegals? Naw, never happen. Drop in the bucket. Move along, nothing to see here.

H-b visa hires overstaying their expiration date? Well, that cannot be the fault of the patriotic multinational corporations who bring them in — it’s someone else’s problem.

And the H-b visa people at Mar-a-lago are extremely vetted and return to their country the minute their visa expire.

    For sure.

    I mean really.

The underground or shadow economy is another factor that causes “economic anxiety” yet there is no major effort to expose or eliminate it and businesses that exploit it are quick to divert attention to other issues. Not having to pay regulated wages or taxes fits neatly into some people’s concept of business ethics …

    " …

While Schneider found that since 1999 the trend in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), including the U.S., was a shrinking shadow economy, recent evidence suggests that since the global financial crisis in 2008, the trend has reversed. This trend could simultaneously explain the decline in the official U.S. labor force, the increase in U.S. currency in circulation, and the suspicious increase in retail sales despite relatively high unemployment. Indeed, economist Edgar Feige estimated that underground economic activity in the U.S. totaled $2 trillion in 2012, approximately 12% of GDP at the time.

Once again, AGENTSMITH101 completely misses the point. For too many Trumpettes and Repubs, it’s not about what is REALLY happening which is workers being hurt by elimination of worker protections, jobs cut by automation and sent offshore. To Trumpettes and Repubs, it’s about perception and assumption that every minority is an illegal immigrant. When we have Trump giving pardons to monsters like Arpaio while he defends Nazis and white supremacists, we will have more mindless idiots blaming “brown people”.

AGENTSMITH101, Jen is right on target. The topic of the cartoon is economic anxiety and not immigration. The joke is, the factors that actually create the main character’s economic issues go unnoticed by him. However, he does notice the people who may not even be illegal.

People are not that bright, they don’t think things through, that’s how we got Trump.
