Deliberately obscured by all the humanitarian acts are the many bad political decisions that contributed to the catastrophe: Profits before people. “Wealth accumulates and men decay.”
By not registering and/or not voting, we allow fringe minority players to have major roles in crafting legislation that suits extremist minorities so, … we get the government we deserve.
And I’ll say what I always say. Make voting mandatory. If they could make military service mandatory they can damn well make voting mandatory. It’s the one thing politicians are afraid of more than anything else in the world. If everyone voted politicians would be out of a job.
Republicans deny the science of climate change because it might hurt the profits of the rich. Republicans scale back on the pollutants of chemical companies, because it might hurt the profits of the rich. Republicans scale back building codes and regulations because it might hurt the profits of the rich. But when a Republican is in trouble, they are the first to whine for the Federal Government to come bail them out. The Blue States have been carrying the Red states for a long time now.
“There has got to be a way to make money off of other people’s suffering. America can do it! Corporate American can find a way to money off of this tragedy.”
