I believe in the original books it goes something like this… Tarzan sees that the white man is clean shaven, but he is not. So he attempts to crudely shave himself with his knife. There’s a lot of bloody days to begin with, but eventually he gets the hang of it.
The real question is – where does he keep his knife hidden? It appears out of nowhere especially when Tarzan needs it the most!
