Kennedy served with honor, Nixon was in the Navy, Reagan was in the Army- narrating training films in Hollywood, Carter- Navy, GHW Bush abandoned is crewmen to die when he bailed out on them, literally, “W” deserted from the National Guard. Clinton was on a Rhodes scholarship, Obama in an age group that didn’t face the threat of the draft. Trump dodged the draft on a complaint less serious than Limbaugh’s cyst. It does make an interesting review of how they served, and how they treated those in the military who came after them, and veterans. Clinton and Obama both served veterans and the VA better than any of the “righties”, even though they didn’t serve in the military. BOTH very adequately served the world by either maintaining peace, or trying to restore it, even when opposed by pachyderms.
It’s ironic, but the greatest service Kennedy performed for his country was getting shot. We tend to view him thru rose-colored glasses these days, but the fact of the matter was that his legislative agenda was struggling until he was assassinated, and LBJ rode the consequent national wave of sympathy and good will to all of the domestic accomplishments for which he deserves to be remembered. Unfortunately, LBJ wasn’t much of a foreign-policy expert — and recognized it — so he trusted Kennedy’s advisors on things like Vietnam and Cuba, which proved to be his undoing.
Years ago, some science fiction writers got together a bunch of short stories published in a paperback called “Alternate Kennedys”, about what would have happened if, for example, Joe, Jr. had not been shot down during World War II, or Jack had not been assassinated, or Bobbie had also not been assassinated. It was both fascinating and so scary that I ended up donating the book to a library; gave me nightmares…
our most basic common link is that I inhabit this planet. I breathe air. I cherish my children’s future. I am immortal – Trump on the values of the GOP
Not everyone cherishes the children. Some hate them or despise them or simply ignore them. Many sell their daughters into slavery.
An antelope and a lion breathe the same air.
Muslims and Hindus do all of the above — more or less — and yet hate each other with a hatred which often includes a willingness to kill their own children if they don’t share the hatred.
Speaking of what we have in common is very nice, but not always accurate.
Lies and other false statements are weaker than truth even if people despise those who tell the truth.

It’s true; we Conservatives all cherish our children’s future. We just don’t cherish YOUR children’s future.
