Am I mistaken, or is this strip far more recent? I can’t make out the year, but it strikes me as being from the 1990s rather than the 1970s like the rest.
This is the first year I can remember with so LITTLE recognition of D-Day. Maybe our current “Twitter war” with Europe has something to do with it? My uncle and father-in-law missed the D Day event, but we’re both wounded as tankers during the “Battle of the Bulge”, Purple Hearts and bronze stars. We should remember that over 58 million people died in that war. War is to be avoided, not cherished as if our “calling” as humans.
I worked with Sparky Schulz for 40 Years as a Master Licensee of the Peanuts Characters creating products that featured the Peanuts Characters. Sparky was very proud on his Service in the U.S. Army and was very serious about honoring D-Day because of the commitment of those brave men and women who protected our Freedom.Don Fraser, Capt. USMC
This Strip is from 1968 and it doesn’t matter if it’s shown every year or not. It should be. Everybody alive today should be grateful and remember to give thanks for the brave soldiers who fought for us and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Brave valiant souls one and all.

It is from some time in the 1990’s as you stated. 1996 to be exact. I checked one of my older compilation books to find out.

My Uncle Dick Peterson went ashore on Utah Beach. He remembered the clouds of planes overhead.

All credit to those who made it happen, in particular Gen Eisenhower who managed to get the many nations working together.

My father was there. He was in the 4th wave to hit the beach that day. Men died all around him, but he didn’t get a scratch.

Another D-Day Hero was James Doohan, “Scotty” of the original Star Trek. He lost two fingers from his left hand. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO GAVE ALL.

Yes, considering that Snoopy had 1 chance in 3 of making it to shore alive.

Another good one is the picture of Gen. Eisenhower speaking to the airborn troops before they took off. Schultz drew Snoopy right in there with them.
