    I think it is wrong to let a criminal go simply because a police officer made a mistake. You punish the police officer, but it is wrong to punish the general public by letting a criminal back on the street. There are too many laws protecting the criminals.

    The reasons for Miranda decision were based in the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. A citizen has the rights to counsel and protection from self-incrimination.

    Miranda vrs. State of Arizona was a direct result of police abuses of power.

    For example, in Connecticut, the head of the State Police, a Maj. Rome was notorious for coerced confessions. He once disguised himself as a Catholic priest to hear a suspect’s confession ! ( Rome, btw, was Jewish .)
