I called soccer matches from beginners thru D-II for 25 years. The worst fans were the fat fathers screaming at their own children. Once, during a U-6 match, I had a father constantly yelling at his own daughter. I cautioned him, didn’t help! Next thing I see is that his daughter is crying because of his yelling. I stop the match, motion for a police office and have the father ejected from the match and the park! The city banned him from the soccer park (after a hearing) for the balance of the soccer season! Oh, BTW, his banishment made the newspaper front page the next day. As time went on he became a model soccer parent!
This is the parent to whom I would offer the job as coach. That shuts them up, usually. It worked for soccer, t-ball and little league, pinewood derby…. “Put up or shut up” was my default.
