My mother used to freak out about odd socks in the laundry when we were kids … unless they were mine. I’m an amputee and would wear a third sock over my residual limb under the prosthesis. Suffice to say I found myself identified as the owner of many socks over the years, even the little ankle socks with ruffles on them that I was sure belonged to my sisters.
