Andy, according to Moore’s law, computer power doubles every 18 months, and Wirth’s law suggests that software efficiency halves almost as fast.

6 years of doubling every 18 months means current computers and software doubled 4 times, making them 16 times more powerful than when you bought that thing and the software now requires as such. That thing is lucky it doesn’t burst into flames if you try to install a newer version of Office on it.

Jason is right life of computer updates changes each year. Most what Jason wants is to play games. My my lap top instead of the usual restart last week. Would not the usual restart mode. Had to go to tech. Appears hard drive crashed. My lap top is 2 to 3 years old. Cheaper for now to have repaired which the tech did. Saved everything on jump drive. Later in the year I will have to buy updated lap top.

My video card just died in my 6-year-old computer. I bought a new one-small-step-down-from-cutting-edge card, which came with a free game called DOOM. I played it on all “Ultra” settings with no stuttering whatsoever. That I didn’t expect…

I recently took stock of my computer software collection. I threw out the Windows 98 installation floppies and my Netscape 4.0.
