    The kid, at age six, refused to eat fish. We told him the roughy was “roughy shark.” He was good with that, biting a shark.

    My parents didn’t lie about what food was or where it came from. Maybe that’s why we never learned to hate liver or tongue. Even as a child, I knew what the blue in blue cheese was and the white, powdery stuff on the outside of an Italian Salami.

    Don’t stick your hand out the car window, it might blow off.

    When I was very, very young and going from the bottle to the cup, my mom told me that she washed my bottles and put them out on the porch to dry, but a big, black dog came and ran off with them.
