Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for January 20, 2017
Transcript:
Phoebe: I thought I would have to do all the work, but this time I didn't get to do any of it. The other kids in the group got me a free B+. I deserve an F for the amount of work I DID, but I deserve an A for the job I would have done. Marigold: Perhaps your teacher could average that to a C. Phoebe: We need to go make a diorama NOW or I'll never be able to move on.

You can see a lot of C&H influence here.
Replace Phoebe and Marigold with Calvin and Hobbes, and it makes just as much sense.

What grade did Calvin get again on the joint project on the planet Mercury with Susie? A “D minus” or something?

I find it troubling that the children were expected to give up their recess to work on a school project. Doesn’t seem right to me.

Anyone would think they deserve an A for what they would have done if it weren’t for the fact that the deck was stacked against them. Whether they’re right determins whether the deck should have been stacked against them.

It somehow feels as though Phoebe failed to learn the appropriate lesson here.

Give yourself some credit, Phoebe. As if those kinds of projects are a walk in the park.

“I didn’t get to do ANY of it” Well….that was 100% her choice.

At least she feels kind of guilty for it.

I hope that this story arc isn’t over yet so Phoebe can finish learning her lesson. But I won’t be surprised if this is the end of this story arc never to be mentioned again.
