Palin is just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill conservative woman who is attractive and not particularly intelligent, though not moronic by any means. I honestly fail to see why she is the target of so much criticism. She represents millions of Americans in many ways, just as Hillary Clinton does.
Ehm, HabaneroDude, Hillary Clinton has been the target of a LOT of criticism herself. If you think Palin has it bad, maybe you’ve forgotten what the Hill’s had to deal with.
Anyway, back to Palin - well, she represents a lot of political belies, and a mentality that a lot of people dislike. I’d say a few other things - for me she is one of the most opportunistic public figures of the last few years, though you may differ.
“Woo-Hooooo! That’s our Sarah! She’s a pit-bull! ….a-and a barracuda! Go on Sarah, kick those liberal butts, knock ‘em dead! Yeah bay-bay, she’s the baaaaaadest babe on the block!”
Right-Wing rhetoric, 2010:
“Waaaaah! The mean, old liberals are picking on our poor, helpless, little Sarah Palin. She’s just a regular girl, trying to get by. WHY are the liberals being so mean to her?”
” I honestly fail to see why she is the target of so much criticism. She represents millions of Americans in many ways, just as Hillary Clinton does.”
Hillary’s been receiving mountains of hateful Conservative rhetoric for years. Palin’s not even begun to catch up. And Peloci is a recipient of vitriol on a daily basis. Heck, even moderately conservative women like Olympia Snowe aren’t safe.
Need we not forget Palin’s echoing the ol’ “Hillary should man up and deal with the criticism and stop hiding behind her gender” and then a few weeks later, started crying the same foul.
Don’t ever say she’s smart! Oh God, heaven forbid americans have president smarter than the average!
Has anyone ever thought of using a normal sheep to guide a bunch of other normal sheeps? A leader must be smarter than the average, I mean, if not, why would he (or she) be leader?
But some people’s egoes and fears condemns them to hate everyone who might have an intellectual advantage. Some quote Ayn Rand all the time, yet calls elitist everyone who sticks out of the bunch.
I suppose what I was getting at is that Hillary was a first lady who was pushing a nationalized healthcare plan, then she was a senator from a state she carpet-bagged, then she ran for president, then she became Secretary of State, etc…
Today, Palin is really no more than Geraldine Ferraro (failed VP candidate) who wrote a book and speaks out for conservatives. She isn’t of the stature of Hillary. Until she is, the vitriol seems misplaced. Once Palin is again in a position of power, by all means, bash away.
^I don’t think she has to reach the stature of Hillary (nor do I think it’s possible) for her to court a little vitriol. Why? Because she loves to get in front of the camera and, in the words of Warren G. Harding, “bloviate.” I rarely bother with her because she reminds me of someone who belongs more on the Maury Povich Show or Jerry Springer.
But it’s reported that she is gearing up for a 2012 presidential run - and that earns her the right to be poked at by cartoonists and commenters.
I am puzzled by the strength of Republican support for people who are irresponsible quitters.
Bush II just stopped showing up for the last year of his National Guard duty, including avoiding the physical exam that was required to qualify him to fly.
Sara Palin quits her job as governor.
Republicans claim to be ‘values voters.’ So, where do responsibility and commitment to contract fit on these ‘value voter’s values list? Clearly not a very high priority.
I think you’re missing an important element of the cartoon. Palin, as genie let out of the bottle, represents all of the (fake) populist, way far right Tea Party candidates that are currently the bane of the Republican party. By allowing Palin in, the Republicans allied themselves with a lot of crazy.
^^Yes, we don’t want her dancing, do we harley?
She irritates me, personally, as someone with nothing to offer but who gets inordinate attention. Along with people like, oh, Paris Hilton, Glenn Beck, and many others.
What I think many progressives fail to realize is if Obama and the Democrats continue to screw up as badly as they are the American people will vote for Mickey Mouse over Obama. That is my fear which could lead to President Palin.
Get off the high spending progressive agenda the public hates.
Harleyquinn,
No, I wouldn’t. I’d stand and fight and do the job I signed up for.
I value upholding commitments and responsibility over acquiring personal wealth.
Sounds like you believe people should choose the easy path to the highest income.
And, regarding Bush II’s national guard service. His defense has always been that, gee, he got an honorable discharge, so that must mean he fulfilled his service. Well, not necessarily, he got into the National Guard by pulling political family strings, and the evidence is there that his behavior would have brought disciplinary action for any average recruit.
Odonnell in high school visited one time and did not like it….on the other hand, Hillary Clinton made a habit of seances in the White House, “talking” to Eleanor Roosevelt. the Dem gets a free pass, the GOP gets tarred and feathered, politically.
As an adult, Christine Odonnel claims to be both Christian and Conservative……most other candidates are accepted on their word…….she has stated how she would vote on actual issues that Congress writes legislation for….I think the voters in Delaware should take her at her word….
Sarah Palin is also a professing Christian and a “common sense” conservative, with a record in public office to prove it.
Media, including cartoonists, are drinking the Obama Koolaid…!

And Palin had her witches/demons driven out in a taped ceremony. Is there a thread here?
