Labor Day was established in North America, in order to celebrate Labor, in the 1890’s, in both Canada and North America. The date was chosen to make it distinct from May 1, International Workers’ Day, which had come to be associated with socialist and anarchist movements.
Mr. Ramirez is very likely focusing on the socialist aspect of the May 1 date. He is, however, four months and a continent off the mark.
The September labor day is associated with labor unions to a certain extent. So, Mr. Ramirez’ message here is that tired old falsehood that labor unions = socialism. And, as we have all heard, socialism = communism. As the recent histories of the USSR and the PRC show, socialism and communism were just cover words for what were / are really dictatorships.
But, I’d like to encourage all to enjoy a fine three day weekend / holiday — Labor Day, a strong tradition in North America.
Safety in the mines, a 40 hour work week, end child labor, provide living wages to workers, yep those accomplishments of organized labor (unions) clearly needed to be destroyed by Reagan and his followers.
Carnegie’s libraries by the way were his apology for all his workers he killed in his businesses. Trump doesn’t even want a library, ‘cause he can’t read.
