Not hardly the impact, but it is interesting that our most critical element for life, is also the one we’re abusing, and killing the planet for a little profit now. (Okay, “energy” companies are making HUGE profit, not just a little.) Of course the C12 H22 O11 folks may kill us first.
Back when burning wood instead of splitting Atoms was a big thing. Then 2 things were found out, wood comes from trees and wood smoke is pollution. Oregon made catalytic converters mandatory and even/odd burning. Environmentalists started chaining themselves to trees! Idiots! They have no clue, it is sort of like the gluten thing today. Or GMO. Panic for no reason, like cavemen scared of FIRE!
Were it not for “man” releasing sequestered carbon back into the atmosphere.. eventually ( a few million years hence) there would be none and life as we know it will not exist. The climate will change.. and the cycle of ice ages will continue.. with or without mans influence. On the other hand.. pollution.. is a real problem… and one that can be solved.. by birth control. There are too many folks, folks. Enjoy sex.. encourage birth control.
Imagine less pollution, easier transportation with lower fuel costs. Too hard, lets just subsidize the oil industry and continue to pour carbon into the atmosphere. Somehow, we have decided that is easier so why change? It is not like our grand kids can blame us?
Something Oregon, and the western states have, that folks don’t think about, or know about, is the millions of acres sprayed with 2-4-D and other herbicides to kill native plants and substitute introduced species that are basically destructive weeds, increasing fire potential on the range, and wiping out native animal species that depended on those native plants. These seeding also increase heating of the land, and change climate when considering the massive extent of the damage. Also, artificial water regimines for cattle grazing, to take those plants down to the nubs, also mess up water tables, and destroy thousands of spring sources.
Of course, go to fracking and oil and gas development, like around Farmington N.M., if you want to see some real damage to the land that is also changing cllimate, in several ways.
