I’ve never known any cats to get into trash cans, but plenty of raccoons and possums have. We are now issued those heavy duty rolling cans from the collection service so there’s no more problems with anything getting into those.
Sharon HayesA large cat can knock over a garbage can easily. Most are knocked over by dogs. Raccoons tend to separate the lid from the can without upsetting the can, while fewer possums than cats will open the can, but both will scavenge one already opened.

You guys got nothin’ . We have black bears in Central Florida raiding our garbage cans. A lot scarier than raccoons…
