Yes, yes. “Work is love made visible.” “If you can’t be with the job you love, love the job you’re with.” Apologies to these two authors and also to Confucius.Karma will not always allow you to make that choice.
This speaks to me in ways I will not delve into tonight; but suffice to say your thoughtful, heartfelt comic is like an I Ching for me…. as well as a lighthouse of sagacity amid my foggy drizzle of insomnia.
That assumes you get to choose your job, which is not always possible. However, it IS always possible to take pride in doing your job, whatever it is, well.
Chose buggy whip plaiter or pony express rider, and you, too, will never work a day in your life. .But it is very rare to, each and every day, feel like you’re not really working. The best you can do is find the sort of job you’d do even if you didn’t need the money. There will be bad days, but you won’t feel like you have to do it just because you need the pay. You’ll do the bad days because it’s just part of the price of having a great job.
I’m a lucky pup, cos I love my job (I work in a Trauma theatre in an NHS hospital). I spent many years doing a job that I came to hate (ironically enough, being a graphic designer) and no kidding, it corrodes your soul dreading each working day.
