    I’m guessing the traffic lights were for pedestrian crossing.

    Maybe there’s some mixup about traffic lights versus those moving traffic signs.

    The first traffic light was in London in 1868 for street traffic outside of Parliament..The first traffic light specifically designed for automobile traffice was by a police officer in Salt Lake City in 1912.

    Garrett Morgan changed them to the Red (top), Yellow, Green (bottom) aspects used today. That was some 10 years after the first electric lights mentioned by others.
